Technology has infiltrated almost every aspect of our life, with artificial intelligence (AI) being the most noteworthy, which uses computational methods to mimic the human thought process. The medical field is no exception to escaping the bounds of AI, particularly medical diagnosis, medical statistics, robotics and human biology.

Medical imaging greatly utilizes AI by involving deep learning methods like artificial neural networks. Dermatology too is witnessing the expansion of AI from the analysis of melanoma and pigmentary skin lesions, to many dermatoses.

Despite the increasing applications of AI, the limitations that exist are the large data necessities, interpretation of data and ethical concerns.

Every technology comes with some advantages as well as disadvantages. Its mark in the field of dermatology will be made by the benefits it provides to the vast majority of the general population as well as the treating doctor.

Artificial intelligence technology cannot replace medical professionals, but it will indeed change their roles. Although AI in dermatology comes with various limitations, its increased efficiency and the ever demanding workload of doctors will soon make AI an essential feature of medical care in the future. This will further enable medical personnel to focus more on human emotional components like care and compassion, which helps to build the doctor-patient relationship in medical care.
